What Happens During a Non Surgical Rhinoplasty Procedure?

There’s a reason it’s nicknamed the “fifteen minute nose job.” However, a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty procedure is also precisely and thoughtfully executed. Nothing is left to chance. Any Non-Surgical Nose Job procedure has four basic phases: consultation, targeting, injections, and, of course, the results. These four phases take place, usually, over the course of thirty minutes or so—less if you’re coming in for maintenance injections or if you are quickly able to articulate your desired results. In other words, for many patients, the longest part of their appointment is the consultation.

Any kind of traditional plastic surgery has a tendency to interrupt life with bruising, swelling, and pain. Sometimes it’s worth it. The Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Rivkin or Dr. Cohen and you will discuss your desired results. These discussions are important, as they provide the key to providing you with the final look you want. Some patients, for example, want their nose to be completely straight on profile, while others prefer to retain a small bump so that their nose does not look too different from that of their other family members. Some people just want to make their nose straight on frontal view and leave the droopy tip alone, whereas others want to correct everything. During your consultation, Dr. Rivkin and Dr. Cohen will give you all of the options necessary to help you get the look that is right for you.

An important part of the consultation is determining how long you want your results to last. Each dermal filler lasts a specific amount of time before the body breaks it down. Bellafill is the only filler that your body cannot dissolve, so its effects last for many years. The other variable that informs which filler we choose is reversibility. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved at any time with a simple enzyme injection, whereas Radiesse or Bellafill cannot be dissolved. The last variable is filler stiffness. If we need to lift a severely droopy tip or build up a very low bridge, we need a filler that will retain its shape under pressure. In this case we will sometimes sacrifice duration of effect to make sure that we can get the lift we need. Weighing these variables will help us make the best dermal filler choice.

Targeting Injections

Once you’ve decided on how you want your results to look, Dr. Rivkin or Dr. Cohen will determine the best sites for injecting your dermal fillers.

Administering Injections

Once everyone is in agreement to the effect we want and the filler we will use, the doctor will determine which areas he wants to inject and then apply numbing cream to help make the injections as comfortable as possible. Within fifteen minutes, the cream will have its effect and the doctor will give you ice to cool the skin. This also helps with discomfort and decreases the chance of bruising.
Once your skin is cool, injections will begin. Dr. Rivkin and Dr. Cohen both use very fine needles in order to minimize discomfort. They inject the filler just under the skin in the precise points they selected previously. After each injection they will mold the filler into place with gentle pressure on the skin. The filler is malleable for several days after injection, but once the body’s cells grow into it, it is not as susceptible to deformation. This is why we tell our patients to refrain from wearing heavy sunglasses for a week after their Non Surgical Rhinoplasty procedure.
This section of the procedure is often accomplished in as little as five minutes.

The Results

Patients who undergo Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty are almost always delighted with their results, and those results are immediate. Unlike traditional, surgical rhinoplasty—which requires weeks for swelling to diminish—results from Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty are visible the second the procedure is finished. This allows cosmetic surgeons to respond to patient demands and desires immediately.

Once your procedure is complete, there is no “recovery” time. You may want to avoid strenuous physical activity for about a day after your injections, and you may have some slight bruising, but you can certainly go about your daily routine without restrictions. We recommend that you refrain from drinking more than one glass of wine the evening after your injection and ask that you avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for 24 hours.
